Some call it the “Pursuit of happiness”, others call it the American dream, yet others will perhaps recognize it as the pursuit of love, money and health.  I say call it whatever you want, but call it something and call it each and every day.  Recognize that we are all constantly in the pursuit of a goal, a destiny, a dream.

Understand that this pursuit is what keeps us alive, what keeps us motivated, what keeps us moving and shaking and sometimes, keeps us up all night.  Embrace the fact that without pursuing that dream we will be walking bodies with no soul.  This pursuit represents our eagerness to grow, and the desire for challenges. The constant pursuit of a goal or a dream is part of being a human being.  But, what happens when we lose touch with ourselves and quit searching? Is it possible to become motivated again?

When we quit searching and become complacent with what we have and blindly go through life without pursuing that “special something” which gets us smiling inside and out – then you have allowed what Robert Schuller calls the “impossibility thinker” to take away your purpose.  We have all been there at some point or another.  There are many reasons why people may lose the desire to dream and achieve goals.  One of the most common reasons why people sometimes quit dreaming is because whatever “it” was; wasn’t a true goal or was inconsistent with their core values and purpose.

Many times we are deceived by others or by our inability to identify a goal that truly motivates us.  There will always be tough choices in life, therefore we must learn to truly identify our true purpose in life, our true goal before making a decision.

Defining a goal requires us to be honest with ourselves.  It requires that we stop allowing others to make decisions for us or even influence us into buying into someone else’s dream or goal which serves their needs instead of our own.  Each individual is his or her own person who must be able to articulate what’s good or bad for themselves.  But, how do you know if a goal is right? Well, you must ask yourself – do I smile when I think about the possibility of this goal coming true? Does thinking about my goal excite me? Do I have doubts as to whether I truly want this?

More to come on this subject….
